As I explained in my post the document here is the first chapter of a book I wrote about fourteen years ago. My agent at the time tried hard to get it published but was unsuccessful. I put the first chapter here just to see what others think of it.

My writing style has changed a good deal since those early days but I have only just returned to serious writing after a break of 10 years or more.

To anyone kind enough to read this I would point out that the document was on Amstrad floppy discs and as they are not compatible with modern systems I had to send them away to be converted from Locoscript to Microsoft Word. There may, therefore, have been some loss of formatting during conversion.
